I need tips on casting?

The most important Part of casting is to make sure that you wait for all the line to stretch out all the way behind you. Remember casting is a timed activity from 10 o’clock to 2 o’clock, closer to twelve than ten (in the words of Norman McLean). Don’t false cast very often, our your likely to get a knot in your line. And remember you can always practice your cast in the back yard, but never on pavement or you’ll damage your line, and good fly line is quite expensive.

How do I set the hook?

Trout are delicate eaters so its going to take a bit of practice to figure out when to set the hook, don’t expect them to strike like other game fish.

How do I bring in a large Trout

Don’t just reel him in like you would on a spin casting setup, fly fishing gear is usually lighter, the fish is likely stronger than your leader so give him some line, play with him until he is tired out and keep him away from obstacles that could tangle your line.

When is it time to change flies?

If you can see the fish and send the fly right over him four or five times its time to change patterns. Fishing wet flies you should change the sinker or add some tippet to lower the fly or alternately take off the tippet to raise the fly.
