We have had a wonderful experience with guests who have stayed with us, from romantic weekends to family vacations, singles looking to escape the city life with their dogs, and even people from nearby who just need a relaxing getaway. Here is what some of our guests say:
We live in the city and have a very busy schedule – I have never felt this relaxed before, just from hanging around the cabin on the porch and in the hot tub! P.S. Whoever does your cleaning is a master.
Everything was perfect, except we wish we could have stayed longer! This weekend was a special celebration for my husband’s return from Afghanistan and our 8th Anniversary. We look forward to visiting again and bringing our grandson.
We loved being here, seeing another part of Gods beautiful creation, the quiet and peaceful times, and the wonderful friendly people!
The Bear Lake Lodge could not have been more perfect for our little family reunion . . . two of our party made use of the hot tub, four of us used the paddle boats, and all of us are still debating who the real champion is in our air hockey matches. The cabin was spotless when we arrived . . . everything clean – ready and comfortable. When we each entered the cabin . . . our mouths opened in awe. It was a “WOW” moment . . . perfect! It really felt like “home” away from home. And – thank you for the convenience of having the Biltmore tickets waiting for us . . . five of us had a tour of the estate on segways . . . a first for all of us! We will cherish that memory for a long time. Again, a big thanks for your patience and all your efforts in making our reunion successful.
We loved staying here and can’t wait to come back again – spending time with each other and exploring the cabin and surrounding towns was wonderful.
The tranquility of the entire property, especially the Tree House itself with its setting and décor. We both have stressful jobs and this was much needed location to unwind and appreciate nature as it was meant. Please whatever you do don’t change anything. This is as close to paradise as you can get.
The seclusion and quiet we experienced while staying here was remarkable. It would be a great disservice to us as human beings not to come back soon and enjoy the most basic pleasures of life.
We would recommend couples who want to get closer to come here. We loved just being able to get away from everything, it’s so beautiful and the hot tub was great after hiking.
This is a lovely area and the cabin was everything we were hoping for. It’s so easy to relax in the peace and quiet – the hot tub didn’t hurt either!
The scenery is stunning. We loved seeing the horse and goats eager to say hello and the pretty lake. This was the best medicine for anyone’s soul!
We had a wonderful time and are looking forward to coming back – we’ve already recommended Saluda Mountain Lake Retreat to a friend of ours. Thanks for a fabulous vacation!
You guys rock!
We loved going hiking to see waterfalls and coming back, relaxing on our peaceful deck, and rejuvenating our muscles in the clean hot tubs. It’s very welcoming.
The relaxing environment was wonderful. I will be back! I work with foreign military officers from all over and will be passing your website information along to those who would be interested in a visit to the mountains!
We enjoyed being away from it all but still being close enough to enjoy everything Saluda/Asheville has to offer.
This is our second year and this time we had our little Terrier, Chloe – thanks for being a pet friendly establishment!!! It is quiet, clean, everything you need for a fabulous vacation! Also we love the Guide Book!
Being with our family together was amazing (Scott just returned from deployment) – being in the mountains and cooler weather with time to relax with each other!
We enjoyed everything! From the moment I spoke with April on the phone, I knew this was everything we needed! The first local to greet us was Leo, he ran towards us with his chubby cheeks bouncing and was so welcoming! This was the most delightful vacation we have had in a long time!
What did we enjoy most about our vacation? So many things – we love the privacy of the cabin while being close to amenities in Saluda, Asheville, etc. The Bear Chalet was perfect for our family – just the right size and had everything we needed. Having access to the lake was wonderful! Despite all the cabins being occupied, it always feels like its our own private space! Staff are incredibly welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Making reservations is easy and efficient. Seeing the caretakers on the property gives the place a friendly feel. We loved our time here and hope to come back again and again.
We were so relaxed. The weather was normal (we’re from FL) – it wasn’t so hot or humid with cooler nights. The cabin was very comfortable, nicely convenient to Biltmore etc. Not too rustic – just right – just secluded enough to be relaxed.
|“10 out of 10 stars. Perfect honeymoon.”
-Bill and Sandy Monday

“The time spent with family away from work, bills, and the honey do list. Honey, apple cider, bb-q, mountain apples, site seeing…The quiet, starry nights spent in the hot tub in the woods were most enjoyable.”

“Can’t name just one thing we enjoyed most about our vacation: friendly town of Saluda, beautiful and cozy Tree House, fishing, paddle boats, great caretakers. Plus I could bring my dog! Yay!”

“The feeling of solitude in one of the most beautiful parts of the world that this place attracts is priceless.”
My husband who is a retired law enforcement officer (the last 14 years in CSI), and is still working part time in same, and I as a critical care nurse have what you may call stressful positions. We have been all over the Caribbean on cruises of all-inclusives of I’d say very well appointed. But to be able to drive a little more than a hour to Saluda and your retreat, is like going hundreds of miles to a beautiful and relaxing venue. We knew as soon as we got there, this was going to be “our place”. And the best part is we are able to bring our wonderfully spoiled adopted dog, Docker with us. Thanks folks for providing a great haven, complete with dinner (trout).
-The Firrantellos, Kings Mountain, NC
“We enjoyed everything about our vacation. This was our third year at the cabins and we love it here. A wonderful place to relax and reflect away from the fast pace life.”

There wasn’t anything we didn’t completely enjoy. The surroundings were perfect for a romantic weekend – so much so, John proposed – right by the fireplace. Thanks April you were great! Thanks Gene for making the cabin so welcoming! (Fire Place ready to go….the hot tub all warm!)
-Christina and John, FL
The cabin was perfect – the website doesn’t quite do it justice. The layout of the cabin is great…
Fireplace, the views, big screen TV, the entire inside of the Lake House, the grill is awesome. The master bedroom was perfect overlooking the lake and beautiful mountains. Nice setup in the kitchen with spices and supplies, bird feeder and watching them eat, the decks, the HOT TUB was so relaxing, paddle boat was neat. Fed the fish! We enjoyed being alone, quiet, beautiful surroundings. The walks, waterfall and picnic area was beautiful. We got great pictures. Your place offers so much. We had a wonderful 10th anniversary. Hope to come back and bring our kids next time (maybe)! This was a little piece of heaven on earth. Thanks and God Bless!

We felt right at home from the first day. Really nice change of pace to have the land and the beauty at your fingertips – Mark enjoyed the fishing boat, he’s still striving for the “big one”. This is truly nature at its best! We loved the Lake House and touring the other retreat areas. The Bear Lodge is quite impressive. We located the waterfalls, but did not get the full experience – next trip! Do not change a thing, we loved everything as is.
– The Teichmans, Cornelius, NC

We enjoyed catching all the trout, brim, crappie, and catfish. We stopped counting after the second day! We caught over 20 trout that ranged from 13″-20″, 30 something crappie and God only knows how many brim. The fishing and the peace and quiet, walking down to the waterfall and that was really nice.
– The Whites, Lawndale, NC (June 2003)

We loved the location – being nestled in the trees, with a tranquil lake behind us and the serenity of Saluda. Your house was clean, spacious, and offered us a lot. The paddleboats were great & I enjoyed puttering around the lake and the fishing.
The week went by too quickly. My soul is in the mountains and your home is heavenly. There is much to do in the area. Thoroughly enjoyed just relaxing and reading and walking to the pond. I am looking forward to returning.
We enjoyed staying in your Lake View Retreat very much. We found everything we needed easily. We loved sleeping with open windows! The paddle-boats were an extra treat. We plan on coming back.

We enjoyed everything – the cabin, the lake, the boats, fishing, the hot tub, the waterfall and grilling out. We also enjoyed the little town of Saluda – the people were all so friendly! The kids loved tubing in the Green River, and Pearson Falls was beautiful. The amenities are great. I can’t think of anything that we needed that we didn’t have. We visited the waterfall, it was very lovely. We picnicked by the lake and ate a sweet watermelon – yummy – fun, relaxing, and peaceful. Thanks for a great time!!
The sightseeing, Biltmore Estate, Dupont state forest, Chimney Rock & Cherokee Casino, eating at Orchard Inn, The Purple Onion, Saluda Grade Cafe. It is quiet and relaxing.
